Q. What is the difference between Paintball and Speedball? A. They both use similar equipment, and the same paintballs, but instead of military style battles in the countryside it’s a hi-octane team sport where several games are played in the same arena. Tournament paintball is popular because the field layout is balanced, and success is down to skill, rather than who gets the best side of the woods. The games are very fast, often 2 to 5 minutes each, and you can pack a lot of paintball into a couple of hours. For more information on the background to tournament paintball and the different formats visit http://www.warpig.com/paintball/articles/tourneyformats/
Q. What are the opening times? A. The Arena is available 7 days a week from 10am to 10pm (it’s floodlit at night), but all games must be pre-booked. The Booking Office is open 7 days a week from 10am to 7pm, and can be reached on 0141 641 0222.
Q. Does it hurt when you get hit? A. Most times you will not feel it, especially if it hits your mask, marker, hopper, battlepack, or if you are wearing the optional padded top. Otherwise you might feel a ‘stinging sensation’ briefly, which soon disappears. Occasionally you might get a welt or bruise if you are unlucky enough to be hit close up.
A. Speedball is an outdoor all-weather game. The arena is really well drained so there should be no standing water. Keen players really like it when it’s damp, as you can then slide across the artificial turf. There is a large covered viewing shelter for spectators, and a changing room.
Q. Can anybody play Terminator Paintball? A. Our insurance company requires that all players should be aged 12+. If it’s a Birthday Party for a 12 year old, all players must be in S1 at School. The game suits all fitness levels because if you are fast and fit you can go in offence, and if you’re less fit you can stay in defence, laying down covering fire. You do need to be able to hold the marker with both hands, and be mobile though.
A. You should wear clothing you don’t mind getting splatted in, and old trainers/boots. We recommend long trousers, a long sleeved top, a hoodie or beanie hat and gloves (hats and armoured gloves are available to purchase). You are provided with a baggy team top to wear. Most paint hits wipe off your trousers, and should wash out.
A. The pizzeria in Scotkart serves a selection of freshly baked pizza, plus Italian coffee, soft drinks, cakes and snacks. Party food and buffets can be pre-booked and served in the Terminator Club House. If the café is closed there are vending machines stocked with snacks, soft drinks and hot drinks.
Q. Can I bring outside food or beverages? A. The only outside food we allow are Birthday Cakes if you have booked a Pizza Party. Otherwise we ask that you purchase food and drinks from the café or vending machines provided.
A. No alcohol is allowed on site, and anyone suspected of having consumed alcohol or drugs will not be permitted to play. The only exception is exclusive group or corporate bookings where beer and wine can be brought for after an event, subject to a small corkage fee.
Q. I don’t live near Terminator Paintball, where else can I play Speedball? A. www.wildwoodzpaintball.co.uk Inverness www.campaign-paintball.com London www.saspaintball.co.uk Wolverhampton www.speedballpaintballnortheast.co.uk Sunderland
Q. Any ‘Top Tips’ for Speedball? * Keep moving from bunker to bunker to confuse your opponents about your location. * Communicate with your team mates all the time; keep each other informed about the location of your opponents, and any ‘eliminations’. * Use the bunkers for cover, and only be in the open when moving between them. * Don’t develop tunnel vision and become fixated on one opponent or you will be eliminated out of nowhere. * Practice ‘Snap Shooting’ where you pop out of your bunker, fire, and take cover again quickly. * Play the angles, if you can move up the flank you can get side on shots to your opponents. * Don’t cheat by wiping paint off; another game will be starting in a few minutes.
Q. How long does a session last? A. It depends how many players there are, private groups of 10 to 20 players might be 2 hours, larger groups of 30 to 60 will be 3 hours.
Q. How much paint will I need? A. Players firing rates vary enormously, some just snipe and use very little, others outgun Rambo and use their entire Battlepack in a game! An average is a pot of 100 balls every two games, so you might use 400 to 500 in 10 games. You can buy extra paint on the day, but It’s cheaper to pre-book a package including paint, rather than ‘Pay as you Go’.
Q. What are paintballs made of? A. They are made of animal gelatine and natural colour pigments. Stains can be washed in water. Paintballs are 100% biodegradable.
Q. Can I bring or use my own equipment? A. Not at Open Sessions as it is unfair on other players. You can use your own markers at private events, if the other members of your group agree, and your marker is Chrono checked by our referees.
Q. Can we use our own Paintballs? A. No, for safety reasons you can only use the paintballs sold on site that day.
Q. Can I cancel my booking and get a refund? A. No, once a booking is made they become non-refundable just like concert and theatre tickets.
Q. What facilities are on-site? A. Plenty of private parking, Café, Vending machines, Changing Room, Lockers, Club House, Covered viewing terrace, Shooting range, Indoor Kart Track. There are no showers at the moment.
A. Yes, all Visa, Mastercard and Debit Cards, but not American Express.
